Speed and Endurance

When you’re running an average of seven miles each game, maintaining your speed and changing direction with ease is key. Check out these awesome drills to blow past everyone on the field!


Push-Up Starts

1. Set two cones 20 yard apart.

2. Lie down in push-up position at first cone.

3. On cue, get up and sprint past second cone.

4. Jog back to first cone for recovery.

5. Repeat five to eight times.


Zig Zag Sprints

1. Place 10 cones in staggered line with six feet between each.

2. Start 10 yards away from the first cone.

3. Sprint toward first cone and sidestep closely through each cone in zig zag motion.

4. Jog back to first cone for recovery.

5. Repeat 10 times.


Tip: Want to intensify this drill? Dribble between each cone with a ball to boost your speed and dribbling.


Footwork

Partner/Wall Drill

1. Have partner toss ball or bounce it off wall.

2. Pass back and forth 10 to 20 times using inside foot and then laces.

3. Repeat with other foot.

4. Repeat drill five times.


Step Over Rolls

1. Set two cones 10 to 15 yards apart.

2. Start at first cone.

3. Step over ball with one foot and roll it forward with the same foot.

4. Alternate feet with each roll and continue till second cone.

5. Repeat 10 times.


Tip: As you begin to get more comfortable, increase your speed and focus on looking up rather than looking down at your feet.


Muscle Strength

Developing your muscles isn’t an activity just for when you’re in the gym, you can also do it on the field with the POWERHANDZ POWERSUIT by Universal Performance!


Ball Hamstring Walkout

1. Lie down with knees bent up, ball under feet and hips off the ground.

2. Using feet, roll ball forward and backward a few inches each direction.

3. Repeat four to six times.
